Faculty welcomes Lord Reed announcement
THE Faculty has welcomed an announcement from 10 Downing Street that Lord Reed is to become President of the Supreme Court in January next year, when Lady Hale retires.
Gordon Jackson, QC, Dean of Faculty, said: “We are delighted that a member of Faculty should have been appointed to the most senior judicial position in the UK.
“I think most people who remember the young Robert Reed when he joined the Scottish Bar in 1983 realised that he was a very special talent. His career bears out their belief, and it is fitting that he should reach the pinnacle of President of the Supreme Court.
“The Faculty was pleased to welcome Lord Reed and his colleagues when the Supreme Court sat in Edinburgh a couple of years back, and we would very much hope that he will be able to return as President.”
